VIETNAM OPEN: 1st 1,000 SPECTATORS GET TO SEE FREE

The first 1,000 spectators to the two-day qualifying rounds of the Vietnam Open ATP tennis tournament will be able to see their local stars vie for the honours of making the main draw.

Tournament Director Amit Naor said the move to provide free entry to the first 1,000 spectators was to allow a sports keen public the chance to see top class tennis as well as cheer their local heroes.

Two Vietnamese players – Ngo Quang Huy and Le Quoc Khanh – have been included in the qualifying rounds on September 24 and 25 at the Pho Tho Indoor Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. The main event starts on Sepetmber 26 and ends on October 2.

The Vietnam Open is the biggest tennis tournament ever held in the country. Players ranked from 10th in the ATP rankings are down to compete. Vietnam’s top player Do Minh Quan has drawn a wild card to the main event beginning on September 26.

“Few things work as well as patriotic yeast in an event like this,” said Naor of the decision to allow the first 1,000 spectators in free to see the action on the opening two days.

“The Vietnamese have two entries in the qualifying round and their top player has drawn a wild card for the main event,” observed Naor.

‘The first thousand spectators will get to see their stars in action for free,” said Naor with an eye on the famed chauvinism of the Vietnamese sports fan who is known to rouse their heroes to feats of derring-do.
